Purchased from a private collection this one strand
coral heishi multi-color 6 directional fetish necklace set.
There are a total of 11 multi-color fetishes
represented in this necklace.
This necklace can be worn with any color you happen to be wearing.
End to end clasped,this necklace measures 16 1/4"L.
Individual fetishes measure 1/2"H x 1 1/2"L.
Each of the 6 animals represented carries a
medicine bundle
that consists of a turquoise arrowhead right
next to each animal then a
senew wrap of pen shell and coral.
Only the eagle at the base of the necklace carries an arrowhead
of a different color other than turquoise, his is that made of shell.
This medicine bundle is for healing and protection,
surrounding each animal.
By wearing this necklace the Zuni's believe that this power
& meaning it carries then is transformed unto the wearer.
These animals represented in this six directional necklace set
and their meaning are as follows:
North = Mountian Lion = lives in the cold winds
representing
leadership resourcefulness
South = Badger = guardian of the south reflects human passions
aggressiveness, perseverance
East = Wolf = where the sun rises signifying new
beginnings and renewal.
teacher, pathfinder on the journey of survival
West = Bear = where Bear resides representing
strength wisdom and self reflection

Above = Bald Eagle = where the eagle flies represents the deities

Next to the Eagle and just above it is the Black Bear =
West made of Jet x 2 (one on each side)
above the black bear are two white wolves = East,
made of mother of pearl shell,
above the two wolves are two Badger = South,
made of Pipestone,
above the badger are two yellow Mountain Lion =
North made of green serpentine,
above the mountain lion then are two moles = below ground,
made of white Dendritic agate,
This then completes the six directional fetish necklace set.
