SOLD 1930-1940's Old Navajo Squash Blossom Necklace strung on rawhide and made of 133 old dimes.
Each side of necklace has a total of "27" round beads on the "main part" (where rawhide is) of the necklace only
so double that gives us the number of dimes on just one side not counting the extender beads
and not counting the squash blossom beads also made of dimes, nor the blossom.
So 27 x 2 gives us the total of round beads only throughout the necklace so that gives us a total of "54"
round beads only.
The way I added additional dimes is next, by then counting all the round
squash beads only that drop off the main part of the necklace. So
5 beads on each side so therefore 10 dimes on each side therefore
"20" total round dimes extending off the main necklace.
There are 1/2 dimes "5" total dimes cut in half, on each side of necklace that are "visibly dimes"
(as you can see the stamping),extending down connecting the main rawhide to the
round squash blossom bead then the blossom opening.
So therefore 5, 1/2 dimes = 2 1/2 dimes total used on each side therefore 5 full dimes total used as extenders.
So the answer to your question is:
27 beads total each side x 2 = 54 x 2 additional side =108,total round beads both sides.
5 round beads each side on squash blossoms only x 2 other side =10 x 2 other side = "20" ,
5, "1/2" dimes cut in half each side = 5 x 2 = 5 full dimes
Here's the math:
108
20

133
Squash blossom measures 16" end to end so 32" total, including Naja.
The shell which is abalone extends out a little more
so I am just measuring the actual end to end length.
Naja alone measures 3"H (including bail) x 2 3/4"W.
Abalone alone measures 1 1/8"L x 3/4"W
