"ORIGINALLY"...
SANTO DOMINGO CORAL & TURQUOISE JOCLA NECKLACE RC Gorman Private Collection
1970's 7 strand coral heishi necklace with Turquoise heishi Jocla with squaw wrap.
This necklace came out of RC Gorman's private estate. Necklace measures in total
end to end 19 1/2"L. Coral measures 2/16"W. Spiny oyster shell is at the base
of the turquoise Jocla. Turquoise beads and silver beads intersperse the barrel
coral beads making for a nice accent to the piece.
The turquoise beads extend beyond the coral beads whereas the
silver beads do not as they are round and more uniform in size as
opposed to the turquoise beads. This necklace has endless possibilities
as you can wear it as shown. Remove the Jocla-- wear that as a choker--
with certain adaptations done to the piece add beads (silver) (as an extender)
so it is long enough to go around the neck. Wearing then the coral by itself...
Laying the coral as shown together and flat then taking each end and
devise a hook so you now have-- a coral choker-- with 14 strands that will
hook in the back. You then could take a simple french wire earring
and connect each frenchwire to each Jocla and you now have
earrings that will go with either your coral short 14 strand choker
or your long 7 strand coral necklace...Lastly wearing the Jocla over
the 14 strand coral choker--that would make for a statement!
When I look at this piece I see so very much more than just a necklace......
what do you see...???
