Acquired from a private collection and now available for your consideration
this large nicely stamped silver oval Navajo belt buckle by Yazzie Johnson.
This piece is unique in that it has the opposite relief work of
four animals encircling an asymetrical turquoise stone.
To create each animal within this silver layer had to be cut out then overlaid onto a layer of silver,
called silver overlay.
These animals consist of a buffalo at the top, above the turquoise stone,
below turquoise stone a bear with a heartline. To the left
of the turquoise a deer or elk with a heartline.
To the right of the turquoise is an antelope with a heartline.
These animals are facing all the same direction counter clockwise.
Buckle measures 2 7/8"H x 3 1/2"W.
Keeper measures 1 3/16"W.
Buckle weighs 85.1grams.
